Nitin Bose directed Dhoop Chhaoon was the first Hindi film to use playback singing. Before it actors and actresses should sang their own songs. Singing talent was mandatory for actors to get the role. With his sound recordist brother Mukul Bose, Nitin Bose introduced the idea of playback singing to Indian Cinema in 1935.
